1. The Center for Regional Development was established in 1968 as an affiliated institute of Chonnam National University to promote academic research on regional issues. CRD aims to contribute to the resolution of regional issues through comprehensive research and analysis in fields such as the economy, social science, urban planning, the environment, and transportation. Furthermore, it seeks to propose models for regional development, ultimately contributing to both academic advancement and regional development.

2. Additionally, CRD aims to enhance and foster its research capabilities and growth through research in the humanities and social sciences.

3. To publish the research of scholars and researchers, CRD has been publishing the journal "The Studies in Regional Development" since 1969, with the 55th volume issued in April 2023. Regular seminars are conducted to discuss the research outcomes and academic debates of the institute's researchers.

4. The institute has been accumulating basic research findings on the development of Gwangju-Jeonnam region since 2000. Each year, one or two planned books are published. Since 2005, the institute has also been supporting basic research in regional development. In line with the trend of globalization, the institute co-hosts annual international academic conferences with Asian universities.

5. CRD is making significant efforts, in collaboration with businesses and public institutions, to lead the development and progress of the Gwangju- Jeonnam region. It aims to play a central role connecting academia and industry in the region.
